We got the boat in and am in the municipal marina again this year. Slip #16 on Dock F. And just in time as the Brown Trout and the Steelhead are traveling the nearshore waters. The Pere Marquette river has a lot of Steelhead in it right now, but is very high and hard to fish because of all of the rain in the past week. Best places to fish are Indian Bridge, Scotville Bridge and Custer Bridge. The wier is on at Custer and fishing is excellent below the wier. You cant fish within 300ft of the wier but the steelies are stacked below it. The browns are cruising the nearshore waters looking for smelt, muddlers or alewives and are very hungry right now. The trick is to fish the warmer waters from a river, creek, or the basin and the pierheads. Trolling the nearshore waters in from 6 to 15 ft of water is almost always a good bet. Rapalas and Rebels and Smithwicks are the baits of choice as they imitate the baitfish but throw in a Dreamweaver SS, in Dbl Orange Crush or a Yeck Zipper Froggie just to keep them honest.
